Ajinkya Rahane, the veteran Indian batter who is currently playing the Ranji Trophy for Mumbai and was playing under Shardul Thakur for the side, was ruled out of the Group D fixture against Puducherry on Sunday.
While the reason for Ajinkya Rahane's removal was unknown, the KKR skipper has been running under a string of low scores in the tournament. Whether it was an injury issue or a personal concern was unknown, but the 37-year-old did not attend the optional training session on Saturday either.
Rahane's awful Ranji run
Out of the six innings he has featured in Ranji, Rahane has had poor runs for most of the lot. Against Chattisgarh, he racked up a brilliant 159 off 303 deliveries; however, the rest of his outings saw meagre scores of 18, 2, and 3. He averages 34.83 till now in the tournament after his last outing against Himachal Pradesh.
The 37-year-old might feature for the next fixture of Mumbai in the tournament, which is scheduled against Hyderabad. Rahane gets almost a two-month window before he sets up for another fixture, as the next clash is scheduled for January 22, 2026.
Rahane active on social media
The batter has been active on his social media handle, though. After the IPL 2026 retention list came out, the KKR skipper reposted a story from Kolkata Knight Riders' official social media handle on Instagram to celebrate the 'almost-mega' event in the evening.
Ajinkya Rahane boasts 14209 runs in first-class cricket from his 205 outings while maintaining a batting average of 44.96. Rahane also played 85 Test matches for India, where he bagged 5077 runs at an average of 38.46. Notably, Rahane's last Test match in the national jersey was against the West Indies back in July 2023.
