Kris Srikkanth decodes Harshit Rana's turbulent form [Source: @BCCI/x.com]
Harshit Rana had a brilliant outing in the recently concluded ODI series against South Africa. The emerging player took four wickets in three games, and even though he went wicketless in the final match, his lines and lengths were very accurate.
Despite doing well in this series and contributing to India's win, his overall performance in international cricket has been very turbulent. Former Indian cricketer Krishnamachari Srikkanth has now identified the issue with his bowling.
The 1983 World Cup winner believes he is very inconsistent with his lines and lengths, which causes him to lose his rhythm. He thinks Rana needs more control in his bowling.
“Harshit bowled brilliantly. He was unlucky not to take a wicket. The only issue with him is sometimes he bowls brilliantly and then bowls two bad balls. That’s where he is losing his rhythm. He shouldn’t overtry. He bowls a superb ball that comes into the right-hander and away from the left-hander. If he gets control over his line and length, he can be a very useful bowler,” said Srikkanth on his YouTube channel.
Harshit Rana opens up on his critics
The 23-year-old has often been the centre of criticism, with many questioning his place in the team. Speaking about how he deals with it, the pacer revealed that he only pays attention to what he needs to do on the field.
“If I start listening to all these things, put them in my mind and take the field, I won’t be able to play cricket. I try to avoid as much as possible. I just pay attention to what I have to do on the ground. I don’t care about what is happening outside or what someone is saying about me. I just focus on my hard work and what I am going to do on the ground,” Rana said, as quoted by the Indian Express.
Harshit Rana is also a part of the Indian team for the T20I series against South Africa. However, with Jasprit Bumrah returning to the side, he and Arshdeep Singh will be India’s primary options. It remains to be seen if Rana gets a chance in T20Is.
