England have got off to a great start in the new WTC cycle as the Ben Stokes-led side registered a five-wicket win over India to go 1-0 up in the five-match Test series. The Three Lions are yet to prove their mettle in the WTC, having failed to qualify for a single final in the last three editions.

England have found success under Brendon McCullum’s coaching but are still striving to reach the highest stage. While the former New Zealand batter is doing well, attention has also shifted to Andrew Flintoff, who is making an impact with the England Lions.

Flintoff Rejects Interest In Coaching Role

Notably, the former England star joined the Lions as their head coach in September 2024 and has helped nurture young talent. In recent comments, Flintoff addressed speculation about succeeding Brendon McCullum as England head coach.

The 47-year-old stated that he has no intention of coaching the senior England team and praised McCullum for his work with the national side.

“It’s not something I’m looking at. Baz McCullum is incredible—the best England coach. He’s unbelievable, and the culture he’s created is incredible. It’s similar to what Gareth Southgate did with the football lads; they are not just good players but great lads as well," Flintoff remarked speaking to Stick To Cricket.

I’m enjoying working under Keysy (England managing director of men’s cricket, Rob Key). It’s no secret he’s one of my best mates, and he’s helped me so much in other things. With Baz, we’ve got a great relationship and the utmost respect,” he added.

Flintoff Makes a Rare Appearance After Car Crash

Flintoff will go down in England’s history as one of their finest players, having represented his nation for 11 years from 1998 to 2009. However, he retired early and switched careers.

He also entered the entertainment industry, becoming a presenter on Top Gear, a show about cars. In December 2022, Flintoff sustained facial injuries in an accident while filming for the show.

Since the accident, Flintoff kept a low profile and only recently found the courage to return to the public eye.
