On the eve of the 2nd Test between India and England at Edgbaston, Birmingham, Shubman Gill addressed the press and provided an important update on Jasprit Bumrah. The India speedster has been the top topic for the last couple of days, as there are rumours that Jasprit might be left out of the 2nd Test to manage his workload.
Gill Drops Update On Jasprit Bumrah
Gill, echoing the comments of India coach Ryan ten Doeschate, remarked that the 31-year-old seamer is available for selection, but a final call will be taken after assessing the pitch one last time.
"Jasprit Bumrah is available. We are trying to find the right combination that can pick 20 wickets and score runs as well. We'll take the final call after looking at the wicket for the final time today," he said at the press conference.
Gill Highlights Importance of Bumrah
While Gill shared a positive update on Bumrah, he also indicated that the Indian team won't force or push the 31-year-old to play. Gill added that they have a strong pool of bowlers, but admitted it is difficult to have Bumrah available for just three games.
"It is difficult, but we have picked the best players from India. It is not an impossible task; other bowlers are good—we have a good pool," Gill said.
Ryan Ten Doeschate Speaks On Bumrah's Availability
Similar to Gill, Ryan Ten Doeschate also remarked that Jasprit is available for selection. He added that the team is yet to take a final decision on the 31-year-old’s participation in the second Test, but confirmed that if Bumrah is rested, it will only be due to workload management and not for any other reason.
