Despite their victory in the first Ashes Test against England at Edgbaston, Marnus Labuschagne believes the Australian team did not perform anywhere near their best. Reflecting on the match, Labuschagne expressed that they were not even playing at their B-game level despite the win.

In an interview to SEN Cricket, Labuschagne emphasized that there is still room for improvement within the team. He recognized the exceptional performances of players like Usman Khawaja and Nathan Lyon but felt that the fast bowlers did not deliver their best performance, despite their years of experience.

Labuschagne pointed out that despite chasing a target of 280, there is significant potential for the team to progress and show improvement in future matches.

"I mean, I don't think we played our B-game. I think there are a few guys that played exceptionally well, Usman (Khawaja) played really well, and Nathan Lyon bowled exceptionally," Marnus Labuschagne told SEN Cricket.

"But I think all our fast bowlers - having seen them bowl for four or five years now – it was certainly not the best they've bowled, and we still only had to chase 280. I think there's a lot to say there about where this team's at and how much improvement we can see from this team, from one game to another. I think that's the important part for me, to win a tight game like that."

Labuschagne highlighted the importance of winning a close game like the first Test and expressed his satisfaction with the result. However, he also acknowledged the need for the Australian cricket team to address certain areas before the second Test.

Although the visitors enter the match with confidence following their initial victory in the five-match Ashes series, Labuschagne emphasized the importance of addressing the team's shortcomings to ensure continued success.
