Ambati Rayudu talks about CSK (Source:@RichKettle07,x.com)
The IPL 2025 season has turned into a nightmare for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), as the five-time champions suffered their seventh defeat of the season against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Friday, April 25. CSK’s downward spiral continued with a five-wicket loss that left them at the bottom of the points table with just four points from nine games.
Ambati Rayudu Reflects On CSK's Downfall
Following the defeat, former India and CSK batter Ambati Rayudu shared a sobering reality check for the franchise, describing the ongoing season as the "lowest of lows" for the team. Speaking on JioHotstar, Rayudu stressed the need for CSK to evolve with the times and adapt to the fast-changing style of T20 cricket.
"I know it's the lowest of lows, but it's also a great learning for CSK. If you rest on your laurels and don't keep an eye on the future, this is what can happen. From here on, they'll be very, very vigilant about evolving with the game. Even MS Dhoni has acknowledged that the game has moved on, and I'm sure he's already thinking about building a team for next year.”
He also praised the young talents in the squad, particularly Ayush Mhatre and Dewald Brevis, who have shown flashes of brilliance in an otherwise disappointing season.
“We've seen some shining lights in the batting line-up, particularly Brevis and Mhatre - those are real positives. Sometimes, it takes a season like this to ground a team and remind them that the game is always bigger than us. You have to stick to the basics and stay humble," said Rayudu on JioStar.
Can CSK’s Still Qualify For The Playoffs?
With only 4 points from 9 matches, CSK now finds itself six points behind the fourth-placed Mumbai Indians. While the playoff door have not mathematically shut, the odds are heavily stacked against them. The 'Yellow Army' must win all of their remaining five fixtures and hope for a series of favourable results elsewhere to even stand a chance of sneaking into the top four.
