Former Indian cricketer Ambati Rayudu has picked Canada as favourites to upstage Pakistan in match number 22 of the 2024 T20 World Cup on June 11.

The 38-year-old cited Pakistan’s recent struggles and back-to-back defeats to USA and India as the primary reasons behind his bold prediction.

The ‘Men in Green’, under the leadership of Babar Azam, need to defeat Canada and Ireland in their remaining two matches of the tournament in a bid to sustain their outside chances of qualifying for the Super 8s.

Canada lost their opening match of the T20 World Cup 2024 to USA by seven wickets before bouncing back against Ireland to register their opening points of the tournament.

The Pakistan cricket team, on the other hand, sustained demoralizing defeats to USA and India and are yet to open their account on the Group A points table.

The two teams will now collide at New York’s Nassau County International Stadium in a must-win game on June 11, and the action will commence from 8:00 PM IST onwards.

Ahead of the much-awaited contest, former Indian batter and CSK legend Ambati Rayudu claimed that he considers Canada as the favorites to defeat Pakistan because of the recent track record of the ‘Men in Green’ team.

While speaking on the Star Sports Network, he said: “Definitely Canada, the way Pakistan is playing, anyone will beat them. I am not insulting Pakistan. However, the way they are playing, any team will come out on top against them.”

Pakistan team has been subjected to severe criticism from fans and expert ever since they failed to track down India’s 119-run total on June 9.

Yet to open their account on the Group A points table, Babar Azam-led Pakistan need to defeat Canada and Ireland with emphatic margins in each of their remaining two fixtures and hope for certain exterior results to their way

Even a washout against Canada or Ireland will result in an instant elimination for the struggling ‘Men in Green’ side.
