If we go into the past, precisely four months in the timeline, we'd revisit the moment when fans all over social media expressed their happiness and faith in Gautam Gambhir, who was announced as the new head coach of the Indian cricket team. Fast forward to now, things have taken a U-turn for the worse as the same people are now slamming Gambhir and asking BCCI to axe him after India's horrifying defeat.

India Faces Humiliating Losses

Recently, India, led by Rohit Sharma, faced a series of embarrassing defeats. They first lost 0-2 in ODIs against Sri Lanka; however, the worst was yet to come as they also succumbed to New Zealand, resulting in a whitewash at home after nearly two decades. Followed by which criticisers did what they do best. During this time, Gautam Gambhir's performance as a coach came under the scanner, or so the reports claim.

Nevertheless, quashing the rumours aside, Gambhir, in a pre-departure press conference, stated that despite so much criticism, he fails to give way to the negative remarks and that coaching the Indian team is a privilege.

"There are incredible people in the dressing room who have done a great job. I am not feeling the heat. It's an honour and privilege to coach the Indian team," Gambhir said during the pre-departure press conference.

When asked if he feels pressure, like Duncan Fletcher's time when the team was in transition, he replied that he is focused on the team and believes that some tough characters in that dressing room are waiting to do well on the Australian tour.

"I am not thinking about transition but the five Test matches. Transition or no transition, if that has to happen, will happen but I see some incredibly tough characters in that dressing room who are hungry to do well," he added.

The upcoming Border Gavaskar Trophy poses a significant challenge for India as their qualification for the WTC Final remains to be determined. They must win four out of five games in Australia to make their entry to the coveted ICC event.

Gambhir Could Lose Position As India 's Test Coach

However, reports suggested that Gautam Gambhir could lose his position as Test team coach if India underperforms in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia. According to a report by Abhishek Tripathi for Dainik Jagran, the BCCI is considering changes to the red-ball coaching staff. VVS Laxman, who is with the Indian T20I team in South Africa, might replace Gambhir as head coach for Tests.

The first Test starts in Perth on November 22, and the first batch of Indian stars have already departed for Australia.
