Babar Azam became the center of attention when the Pakistan Cricket Board made a bold move by resting him for the second and third Tests against England. His replacement, Kamran Ghulam, raised eyebrows, with many doubting whether the newcomer could fill the shoes of one of the world’s top batters.
Kamran Ghulam made his debut in the second Test in Multan and quickly silenced critics. The all-rounder scored a brilliant 118 off just 124 balls, proving his worth to those who thought he might struggle on such a big stage. Ghulam’s century was not just about runs—it was a statement that he belonged at the international level.
Following the match, Pakistan’s Test captain, Shan Masood, praised Ghulam for his resilience and calm under pressure.
“It’s never easy to replace one of the best batters in the world, but to get that century was special.” Masood said during the post-match presentation.
"I read some things that were horrid even before he played his first Test match, so I can’t even imagine the pressure someone can be under, but we were all behind him. From the get-go, he seemed like he belonged. To get that century, that was special.”
Noman Ali and Sajid Khan Help Pakistan Seal The Win
While Ghulam’s knock set the foundation for Pakistan’s strong performance, it was the spin duo of Noman Ali and Sajid Khan who took center stage. Both spinners combined to take all 20 English wickets during the match. Sajid shone in the first innings with figures of 7/111, while Noman dominated the second with 8/46.
Starting Day 4 of the second Test, Pakistan’s bowlers continued their assault, with Noman’s eight-wicket haul restricting England to just 144 runs. The visitors were bowled out, leading to Pakistan’s emphatic 152-run victory. This victory marked Pakistan’s first home Test win since February 2021, when they defeated South Africa. After a 3.5-year drought, the team finally gave fans something to celebrate.
The win also levelled the series 1-1, setting the stage for a thrilling decider in Rawalpindi, scheduled to begin on October 24.
