In the latest development, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced that uncapped left-arm spinner Hasan Murad will replace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan in the squad for the upcoming first Test against South Africa, scheduled to begin on October 21 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka.

The match is part of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC), with crucial points up for grabs as Bangladesh and South Africa look to improve their standings—Bangladesh currently sitting seventh and South Africa in fifth place.

The decision to bring in the 23-year-old Hasan Murad comes after confirmation of Shakib Al Hasan's unavailability for the first Test. Shakib, who was expected to rejoin the national squad but did not return to Bangladesh due to security concerns.

Hasan Murad Promising Talent Of Bangladesh

Hasan Murad, will make his debut at the Test level if included in the playing XI. Murad's inclusion is seen as a major opportunity for the rising star, whose consistent performances in first-class cricket have caught the attention of selectors.

Since his first-class debut in 2021, Murad has taken an impressive 136 wickets in just 30 matches, including 12 five-wicket hauls, establishing himself as a crucial player in the domestic circuit.

“We have been informed that Shakib is unavailable for the first Test. He is at the end of his Test career but along with his experience, we still do not have someone of that caliber with both bat and the ball to replace him.”

Hasan Murad also gained experience in international white-ball cricket when he made his debut for Bangladesh at the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou, where he played in two T20I matches.

While his exposure at the international level remains limited, his domestic statistics make him an exciting addition to Bangladesh's bowling attack. His ability to extract turn and trouble batters with accuracy makes him a promising option on the spin-friendly wickets of Dhaka.

Given the conditions at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium, which typically favors spinners, Murad's left-arm spin could prove to be a crucial factor in Bangladesh's bowling plans against a strong South African side.
