The first day of the second Test match between England and Pakistan turned out to a classical day of Test cricket with both sides exchanging blows in the different junctures of the game. The pitch is not as easy to bat on as the one in the opening Test of the series and England started well with two early wickets. However, Saim Ayub and debutant Kamran Ghulam displayed great character and skills and took Pakistan to safer shores with a 149-run stand.
Kamran Ghulam Impresses On Test Debut
Saim Ayub fell on 77, but Kamran Ghulam continued and got to his century on Test debut. He was looking set to bat till the end of the day. However, Shoaib Bashir outfoxed him with a nice flight and loop in the 85th over of the day and ended his marathon knock. It was a lovely tossed up delivery on off. Kamran Ghulam came down the track to drive it away, but the ball beat the outside edge of his blade and knocked over the stumps to end a brilliant knock from the debutant.
Kamran Ghulam replaced Babar Azam in this Test. So, the pressure was on him to deliver, but the 29-year-old batter showed no nerves and set the ball rolling in his very first innings as a Test batter. He has a first-class average of almost 50 and looks like a player who can provide stability to Pakistan's batting order.
His wicket was a much-needed one for England, who toiled hard after the initial success. At the end of Day 1, both teams shared the honour, with Pakistan scoring 259 runs and losing five wickets.
