Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) face an uphill battle in IPL 2025, languishing ninth in the standings with just three wins from ten matches. The team’s struggles mark a stark contrast to their dominant 2024 campaign, where they finished runners-up after a thrilling final against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
Despite their faltering form, veteran seamer Jaydev Unadkat has lauded captain Pat Cummins for maintaining stability and positivity within the squad.
Jaydev Unadkat Praises Cummins’ Calm Influence
Unadkat emphasised Cummins’ composed leadership amid the team’s turbulent run this season.
"He has been really good. I have played two seasons now... he is a good thinker on and off the field and keeps the atmosphere positive—that's what you need from a leader," the left-arm pacer said, as quoted by ANI.
Reflecting on SRH’s fluctuating fortunes, Unadkat acknowledged the challenges of regaining momentum.
"We were winning a lot last season, so it was different. This season has been a little tough. There have been wins and losses—probably the momentum has not come on our side yet. We are trying for it, and that's all you can do," Unadkat added.
Cummins’ Communication Earns Praise
Despite the setbacks, Unadkat credited Pat Cummins for his clarity and consistency in guiding the team. "From a leadership point of view, he has been good in terms of passing on the messages and stuff like that. It's just that the momentum is not coming our way," he added.
SRH's Forgettable Outing And IPL Near-Exit
Meanwhile, Hyderabad’s chase of 225 unravelled early as GT’s bowlers struck at regular intervals. Though SRH’s batters showed intent, wickets fell in clusters, with Rashid Khan (3/28) and Mohit Sharma (2/39) sealing their fate.
The loss leaves SRH’s playoff hopes hanging by a thread, while GT strengthens its position in the top four. As SRH fights to salvage pride, Cummins’ leadership will be pivotal in navigating the final stretch of a forgettable season.
