Deepti Sharma set the cash registers ringing at the WPL 2026 auction last week. Involved in an intense bidding war, the star all-rounder eventually bagged a Rs. 3.20 crores right-to-match deal with the UP Warriorz franchise, a team she has been with since the inaugural edition of the WPL back in 2023.
Despite clinching a hefty paycheque, the 28-year-old seems to be unfazed by her newfound lucrative price tag. In a recent interview, the 2025 World Cup winning cricketer stated that she is not under any pressure and is purely motivated to perform well in the upcoming WPL 2026 season for the UP Warriorz.
Deepti Sharma “looking to enjoy” WPL 2026
While speaking on the sidelines of the CII Big Picture Summit, Deepti Sharma stated that she is not fazed by her lucrative WPL 2026 deal with the UP Warriorz franchise, but is definitely motivated to perform well for them in the upcoming season.
She said:
“There is no pressure, but there is definitely motivation because when there is a high bid on you and so many people are watching and following you and you do well for your franchisee. I don't take it as any pressure. I look to enjoy. I like to deliver in tough moments for my team and enjoy it as well.”
Deepti Sharma also expressed her gratitude towards UP Warriorz owners for trusting and retaining her for WPL 2026. The cricketer added that her family was “very happy” since she would be returning to her home state for action this season. Deepti added:
“Of course, they (family) liked it a lot and they were very happy. They are waiting for the WPL to start and were just cheering. And when they came to know about the right to match, they were very happy because I am from UP and that I would go back to the UP team and get another opportunity to play there.”
Deepti Sharma recently won the ‘Player of the Tournament’ award for the Indian Women’s team in their triumphant 2025 World Cup crusade at home.
The champion all-rounder is currently prepping up for WPL 2026, scheduled to be launched in the second week of January next month.
