Indian fans can breathe a sigh of relief as KL Rahul is making excellent progress in his rehabilitation from a right thigh injury, and he has set his sights on returning to the team for the Asia Cup 2023.

The Karnataka batter provided an Instagram update, giving fans a sneak peek into his rigorous leg workout session at the National Cricket Academy (NCA). Last week he shared a photo of himself post workout and captioned it with the words, “Starting to feel like me again.”

For the unversed, Rahul sustained an injury to his right thigh during the LSG vs RCB match on May 1 in the 2023 IPL season. Following the setback, the right-handed batter underwent surgery on his right thigh in London. He is currently undergoing rehabilitation at the NCA.

Rahul's injury sidelined him from the World Test Championship final against Australia, which ended in India's defeat at The Oval. Earlier, his underwhelming performance over the last year led to his exclusion from India's T20I team.

However, he remains an integral component of the Indian ODI setup, given his exceptional batting record at number five position. Should Rahul recover in time for the Asia Cup, he could potentially be included in the plans for the Ireland tour as a wicketkeeper-batter.

Shreyas Iyer, like KL Rahul, underwent surgery to overcome his back issues. Apart from the duo, the star India pacer Jasprit Bumrah, who has been out of action for almost a month is also expected to make a comeback through Asia Cup 2023.

The World Cup kicks off on October 5 with a repeat of the 2019 Final as England take on New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Meanwhile India begin their campaign on October 8 against five-time World Cup winners Australia in Chennai.
