‘No Need To Doubt’ - Dinesh Karthik Supports Controversial LBW Of Zak Crawley In 2nd Test

During the second Test match between India and England in Vizag, the Decision Review System (DRS) found itself under scrutiny following Zak Crawley's contentious leg-before-wicket (LBW) dismissal by Indian spinner Kuldeep Yadav. The LBW decision, contested by England's captain Ben Stokes, stirred a heated debate over the accuracy of the technology.

Amidst the controversy, veteran cricketer and commentator Dinesh Karthik emerged as a staunch advocate for the DRS and the legitimacy of Yadav's dismissal. Karthik's analysis centred on the speed and turn of Yadav's delivery, emphasizing the critical role of the ball tracker in the DRS. He refuted skepticism, stating,

"I don’t think we should really doubt the [ball] tracker."

Karthik pointed out the nuances in Yadav's bowling, explaining,

" What actually happens is that Kuldeep receives a lot more turn when he bowls at about 80 kmph, which implies he is bowling a little slower and giving more air. However, this one was bowling much flatter and faster, so the two degrees of turn were less than usual because he was hitting the 86 kmph mark."

Zak Crawley, who showcased an impressive batting performance with scores of 76 and 73 in the first and second innings, fell victim to the LBW decision against the run of play on the fourth day. The controversy did not overshadow India's triumph, as they secured a 106-run victory in Vizag, levelling the five-test match series at 1-1.

Looking forward as the series stands level, the anticipation builds for the upcoming third test in Rajkot on February 15.
