As expected former New Zealand pacer Shane Bond has joined the Rajasthan Royals franchise after leaving Mumbai Indians last week.

As confirmed by the RR, Bond has been appointed a dual role within the support staff, donning the hats of a bowling and an assistant coach. Bond enjoyed a successful stint with the Mumbai Indians franchise since 2015 and has had multiple coaching assignments with New Zealand as well between 2012 and 2015.

The 48-year-old also expressed his delight over joining the Rajasthan-based side, which has been a nursery for fast bowlers in the past several years.

Here's what Bond said

"I’m delighted to be joining the Royals. It’s a forward-thinking franchise who are determined to do well and I’m excited about being part of their vision. The bowling group is a great mix of youth and experience, and it will be awesome to work alongside them,"

RR's Director of Cricket, Kumar Sangakkara welcomed Bond into the Royals' family via a statement.

"Shane is one of the greatest fast bowlers of modern day cricket, and brings with himself a wealth of experience and knowledge having mentored some of the best in the business. He has served in the IPL and in India for a number of years and is well-versed in the processes involved within the franchise ecosystem. He is someone who has a keen eye for helping the best become even better and we are delighted to welcome him to the franchise, and look forward to seeing the impact he can make towards moulding us into a title-winning team."

The franchise also thanked former bowling coach Lasith Malinga for his valued services during his tenure before moving back to Mumbai Indian as bowling coach for the 2024 edition.
