'No Assurances...' - Former Pakistan Captain Highlights PCB's Vows Towards Players

Former Pakistan captain Salman Butt expressed his concerns about the Pakistan cricket team's preparations for the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh and England.

In an exclusive interview with Cricket Pakistan, he emphasised the uncertainty within Pakistan cricket and stressed the importance of taking calculated risks to achieve substantial success.

He highlighted the need for better planning and assurance in the team's approach to ensure they are well-prepared for the challenges ahead.

Salman Butt Express His Concerns About Pakistan's Cricket Team Weakness

Salman Butt added and suggested that Pakistan could opt for green pitches to leverage their medium pacers against England, to work their strengths in seam and swing conditions.

"There are no assurances in Pakistan cricket. You have to take those calculated risks. There is always an element of risk before big achievements arise," Butt said.

However, he also highlighted the potential downside that such pitches could also favour England's strong pace attack.

This strategic decision requires careful consideration to balance the benefits and risks effectively.

"Pakistan has medium pacers; we don’t have genuine pace. We can probably go with green pitches against England. But when you prepare green pitches, your batters start feeling the tension. When you make spin-friendly pitches, you start worrying about England’s spinners. There is some sort of skill set that will help you win these Test games. Produce pitches where bowlers and batsmen have an equal chance," he further added.

Pakistan will be in action during the upcoming two-match Test series against Bangladesh at home. The Men in Green will face Bangladesh in the first match at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on August 21, and the second match will be played in Karachi from August 30 to September 3.

This red-ball series is crucial for Pakistan as part of the ongoing World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 cycle.

Looking ahead, Pakistan has a packed schedule. They will host England and the West Indies for a red-ball series and will also host South Africa and New Zealand for an ODI tri-series before the Champions Trophy 2025, set to be played in February-March next year.
