It is still being determined whether India will have Rohit Sharma as their captain in the upcoming T20 World Cup next year, confirms BCCI Secretary Jay Shah.

Although Rohit is the strong favourite to lead the Men in Blue when the tournament takes place in the West Indies and United States between June 3 and 30, 'no assurance can be given' to him at this point, as reported by Cricbuzz.

"The tournament (Twenty20 World Cup) starts in June. There's the IPL before that and the series against Afghanistan. We will take a good decision," Jay Shah said in Mumbai, quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.

It has been over a year since Rohit last played a T20I match. During his absence, Suryakumar Yadav, the No. 1 ranked T20I batsman in the world, who is also Rohit’s Mumbai Indians teammate, will lead India against South Africa in the three-match T20I series starting Sunday.

In addition to providing an update on captaincy, Shah discussed their view of Rahul Dravid as their long-term head coach. Their schedules have prevented them from sitting down yet, but they will discuss it once they return from South Africa.

"We did not have time. We met with them and mutually agreed that he can continue. Once they return from South Africa, we will sit with him and decide on the tenure," Shah added.

Dravid's original tenure ended with the ODI World Cup on November 19.
