Hardik Pandya helped Team India overcome their top-order jitters against Pakistan this Asia Cup 2023 with a belligerent counterattacking 138-run stand with Ishan Kishan. The star all-rounder himself listed 87 to top-score in the Indian innings, before rains prevented the launch of Pakistan’s run-chase in Kandy.

The Indian vice-captain has been in scintillating touch with both bat and ball off late. The cricketer was also elevated to team’s vice-captaincy role not long ago.

Helming the dual responsibility, Pandya recently stated that his workload is much bigger than his teammates.

Pandya talks about workload in team

Hardik Pandya has been leading the Indian team in Rohit Sharma’s absence since last year. The cricketer was also appointed as Sharma’s deputy for the senior team, a role he will helm at the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023 as well.

Currently in Sri Lanka for the Asia Cup 2023, the 29-year-old talked about his excessive workload during team’s training sessions owing to his all-round diligence. While speaking on Star Sports, he said:

“As an all-rounder, my workload is twice or thrice as anyone else. When a batter in the team goes and bats and finishes his batting and is heading home, I’ll still be bowling after that. So for me, all the managing, all the pushing, and everything happens during the sessions or my training or my pre-camp season.”

In the meantime, Hardik Pandya and the rest of his Indian teammates are bracing themselves for their subsequent Asia Cup 2023 fixtures in the Super Four round of the competition.

The ‘Men in Blue’ will face Pakistan first-up in Colombo on September 10, before going up against Bangladesh and tournament co-hosts Sri Lanka in their race towards the final.
