Gautam Gambhir is known for his aggression and never-back-down attitude, which has put the Indian cricketer in trouble during his playing days, and to date continues as seen in the recently concluded Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. Gambhir was involved in an ugly spat with former India and Delhi teammate Virat Kohli after Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) match at Lucknow, which made more noise than the cricket.

This was the second time Gambhir and Kohli were involved in an on-field altercation after 2013 when the former leading KKR had a war of words with the latter.

Now in an interview, the LCG mentor has opened up about his relations with Kohli and clarified that there is nothing personal between him and the former India captain. Speaking to NEWS18, Gambhir also name-dropped former India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni and went on to elaborate on his on-field fights.

Here's what Gambhir said

"My relationship with MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli is the same. If there is an argument between us, it stays only on the field, not off field. There’s nothing personal. They want to win as much as I do."

"Look, I have had many fights on cricket fields. It's not like I never fought. I have always ensured to let those fights and arguments stay at the cricket field only. The argument was between two people and it should stay within the cricket field and not outside it. A lot of people said many things. A lot of people demanded an interview for TRPs like they asked me to clarify. The thing that has happened between two people doesn't need to be clarified."

Both Gambhir and Kohli were fined 100 per cent of their match fees by IPL authorities under article 2.21 of the Code of Conduct.

Kohli was involved in a heated exchange with LSG pacer Naveen-ul-Haq, both during and post the match.
