'We're Never Going To Win..' Sunil Gavaskar Lashes Out At India Following WTC Final Debacle

India's journey to win an ICC title after 2013 continues after Australia drubbed them in World Test Championship (WTC) Final 2023 on Sunday by a massive margin of 209 runs. With this win, Australia became the first team in the world to win all major ICC titles across formats.

India, on the other hand, had their best chance of winning, but poor team selection and ever poorer shot selection by batters in both innings cost the side a shot at winning the ICC Test Mace. Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar has lashed out at Team India batters for their performance in WTC Final.

As quoted by India Today, Gavaskar urged management to try out new players and not rely upon players who have failed on the big stage over and over again.


Here's what Gavaskar said

"All those questions have to be asked. Look, we are never going to win titles apart from Asia Cup maybe, but the world titles, if we are going to be sweeping things under the carpet. If tough calls have to be made, you make the tough calls and then let maybe if a failure has to be there, then let it be done by somebody who is new to the job."

Gavaskar further urged players, and support staff to be brutally honest and frank about their game and approach, and urged authorities to punish players if need be for their mistakes.
