'I Fail To Understand..', Sachin Tendulkar Slams Team Selection After India's Horrendous Defeat in WTC Final

The much-anticipated ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023 ended in Australia steamrolling over India and clinching their maiden Test mace by an overwhelming margin of 209 runs on Sunday. While several reasons have been attributed to India's harrowing loss, one of the main factors was the exclusion of off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin from the playing XI, as per legendary batter Sachin Tendulkar.

Since then, India were always behind the eight ball in the match and needed 444 to chase down in the fourth innings.

Taking to Twitter, Tendulkar congratulated the Australian team for winning the WTC Final and expressed surprise over R Ashwin's exclusion, who has been India's best bowler in WTC 2021-2023 cycle with 61 wickets.

Interestingly, Ashwin's competitor, Nathan Lyon, claimed five wickets in the match, including a four-for in the fourth innings for Australia.

Here's what Tendulkar Tweeted

"India had to bat big in the first innings to stay in the game, but they couldn't. There were some good moments for Team India, but I fail to understand the exclusion of Ashwin in the playing XI, who is currently the number one Test bowler in the world."

Like I had mentioned before the match, skilful spinners don't always rely on turning tracks, they use drift in the air and bounce off the surface to disguise their variations. Not to forget, Australia had 5 left-handers out of their top 8 batters."

India's next assignment will be in July when they travel to the Caribbean for two Test, three ODI, and five T20I series.
