Athletes transcend boundaries and creeds and in a nation like India sporting heroes are celebrated like demigods, and gods in some cases, with Mahendra Singh Dhoni being one.

Dhoni, with his contribution to cricket internationally for India and domestically in the Indian Premier League (IPL), has put the cricketer on a pedestal, which makes him an inspiration and favourite for other sportspersons as well. 

Former India Tennis star and Olympian Leander Paes is one of the many, who enjoys a great relationship with Dhoni, and once again retaliated about who his favourite cricketer in the IPL is.

Responding to a fan question on Instagram, Paes stated that Dhoni, who will play for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the upcoming IPL 2024 is his favourite, while also giving a reason behind his name in a cheeky remark keeping up with the '7' trend on social media.

Both Paes and Dhoni have been spotted training for a football match together back in 2019 for charity purpose. The star duo turned up for the “Playing for Humanity" football match, which also witnessed celebrities from other walks of life participate for a noble cause. 

Between 1991 and 2021, Paes brought laurels for India, including a bronze medal in the 1996 Olympic Games, and winning as many as 18 Grand Slam titles (8 Doubles, and 10 Mixed Doubles). 

Meanwhile, Dhoni will be seen in action on March 22- under Ruturaj Gaikwad's captaincy - when the IPL 2024 gets underway with defending champs CSK taking on Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).
