Harry Brook, the young batting sensation from England, has won high praise from one of cricket's greatest minds, Greg Chappell. The former Australian legend has compared Brook’s technique and early batting traits to none other than the Indian maestro Sachin Tendulkar.
Brook, since his debut in 2022, has scored 2820 runs in Test cricket with a 57.55 average and 10 hundreds, including a triple century.
He perfectly exhibits England’s modern-day ‘Bazball’ approach and has seen enormous success in recent months.
Greg Chappell speaks highly of Harry Brook
Meanwhile, talking to Cricket.com.au, former Australian cricketer Greg Chappell praised Harry Brook by comparing him to legend Sachin Tendulkar.
“I’ve watched him bat, as I say, on television. He reminds me very much of Sachin Tendulkar in the early part of his career. Very minimal movement early on, picks off the angles very well, and can score off most deliveries," Chappell said.
Chappell further added that Brook possesses the rare combination of technique, confidence, and controlled aggression that could make him one of England’s finest batters in the modern era.
“Brook has the tools to be one of England’s finest batters, arguably their most destructive, in the modern era,” he added.
Harry Brook has made quite a mark in international cricket already with his fearless strokeplay and the ability to perform in high-pressure situations at just 26 years of age.
But one of the biggest challenges to his career will be the Ashes series to be held in Australia, where he will confront pace from Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, and Mitchell Starc on bouncy wickets.
Harry Brook’s stats so far in 2025
In 2025, Harry Brook has played about 6 Tests, about 10 innings, and scored around 539 runs at an average of around 53.90, with 2 centuries and 3 fifties.
One of the more memorable innings was at Headingley, where he made 99 in England's first Test against India, missing a century despite 11 boundaries.
In the series finale at The Oval, Harry Brook slammed 111 off 98 balls to lift England’s chase. However, the upcoming Ashes 2025 will be his first tour to Australia. So naturally, it will come with its own set of challenges.
