Former Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir has likened Virat Kohli with modern-day football icons like Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. Kohli recently packed a scintillating match-winning century against Pakistan in India’s crucial Group A match of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy.
The legendary Indian batter crafted 100 unbeaten runs from 111 balls with seven boundaries, and was fittingly named the ‘Player of the Match’ for his efforts.
Mohammad Amir praises Virat Kohli’s worth ethics
Mohammad Amir has heaped a significant praise on the work ethics and fitness levels of ex-nemesis and legendary Indian batter Virat Kohli. Amir stated that Kohli is a “complete package” among sportspersons in terms of ethics, fitness and even charity work, much like legendary football players like Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
Moreover, the 2017 Champions Trophy winner added that Virat Kohli is a role model for many people, even in Pakistan. While speaking with Sports Tak, he said:
“Why do people love Ronaldo? Why do they love Messi? If I talk about Ronaldo, especially, look at his lifestyle. Look at his charity work, his work ethic and his fitness. He is a complete package. Likewise, Virat Kohli is a complete package.”
“Why is he a role model for many, even in Pakistan? The country doesn’t matter. Whether he is from Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, or England role model can be from anywhere.”
Mohammad Amir also praised Virat Kohli for staying true to his work ethics even at the age of 36. He cited the latest example of the Indian cricketer arriving to the training 90 minutes in advance to prepare for India’s all-important 2025 ICC Champions Trophy match against Pakistan.
“Virat Kohli is a player for whom age doesn’t matter. His work ethic doesn’t change depending on his form. He came 90 minutes before for training on the eve of the India vs Pakistan match.”
Mohammad Amir and Virat Kohli both share mutual admiration for each other. Back in late 2017, the Indian batting icon even named Amir “one of the toughest bowlers” he has ever faced in his career.
Nonetheless, Virat Kohli is currently prepping himself for India’s final Group A match of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. The Indian team will face New Zealand on Sunday, March 2 before entering the semifinals.
