'...Maybe That’s Why': Former India Legend Breaks Pandora On Rinku Singh's T20 World Cup Snub

On 30 April, Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee announced India's squad for the T20 World Cup 2024. While it included some notable players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja and Jasprit Bumrah, it also had some surprise exclusions from the team including prodigy Shubman Gill and finisher Rinku Singh.
Indian legend, Sunil Gavaskar spelled out the possible reason why Rinku Singh was included in the squad by BCCI.
He shared his insights on the possible reason why Rinku Singh was not in the T20 WC squad, stating that it was due to his uninspiring outing in the ongoing IPL 2024 season that he has been left out by the selection committee. As quoted by Hindustan Times, he said:
“Maybe his form in this particular edition of the IPL hasn’t been great. He hasn’t had that many opportunities (with KKR), maybe that’s the reason why they’ve (selectors) not picked him.”
The UP batter has undoubtedly had a tough pill to swallow upon missing out on the esteemed chance of being a part of the squad. He has displayed some remarkable performances over the year especially in international cricket for Team India.
In all of the 15 appearances he has made for Team India he has successfully amalgamated 356 runs at an impressive strike rate of 176.23 and an average of 89. However, when it comes to the IPL 2024 season he hasn't been as impactful as he'd hope for. Last years, six hitting sensation has only managed to score 123 runs at an average of 20.50.
