The table toppers, Rajasthan Royals (RR) will lock horns with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in the ongoing IPL 2024 season for the first time ever on May 2nd, Thursday.
Interestingly, the two have met 18 times and it is even-stevens coming into this all-important clash, especially for the Orange Army.
SRH vs RR: Team Previews
SunRisers Hyderabad
The SRH campaign that left the station at bullet train speed has now begun to show signs of halt and slow speed, having lost two of their recent games.
Pat Cummins-led Orange Army first failed against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at their home ground as the fell short by 35 runs. Talking honestly, the chase never looked in their control as the Sunrisers started losing wickets from the first over itself.
Then in their second reverse-fixture of the tournament against Chennai Super Kings at Chepauk, SRH did initially have an upper hand having won the toss and opting to field first. However, they were quick to sink that ship as they failed to keep the Chennai batters calm as they posed a thumping total of 213 for them to chase. But after losing their top order in the first 4 overs itself, they were nowhere in control of the chase at any given point. As a result of team collapse, they extended their losing streak to two games.
Now, against RR they would hope return to their winning ways. The SRH batters will have to urgently pull their socks up especially their openers who would have to focus on giving good starts to their team as most of the victories that came for the Sunrisers were because of the explosive batting by Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma together. Moreover, Heinrich Klaasen who had a fabulous start at the beginning of this season has also failed to fire his bat in the last couple of games, his good form is also very crucial for SRH to dominate RR.
On the bowling front, they would look to bring Mayank Markande back as his absence turned out to be a big blunder in the last match. His wicket-taking abilities would ensure that the opposition are on their toes in the middle overs.
Rajasthan Royals
Talking about the table toppers, Rajasthan Royals they have looked in sublime form all through the 2024 IPL season. The entire Royals contingent has been complementing one another, whether the bowlers or the batters, they've looked like a very strong force to reckon with.
In just 9 games, RR is just one win away from securing a 'Q' in front of their name. Jos Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal are already sharing three centuries between them and this opener duo looks unstoppable.
Added to this is the 'roaring' magic of their skipper Sanju Samson who recently secured a spot in India's T20 World Cup squad after his sensational performances this season. Moreover, Riyan Parag, Dhruv Jurel, Rovman Powell and Shimron Hetmyer have all delivered in crucial junctures of the tournament.
Their bowling department has also been a crucial factor in all of their victories so far, especially Yuzvendra Chahal, Trent Boult and Avesh Khan who have picked up big wickets and broken partnerships at the most crucial stages of the game.
Going into this game against SRH, they would look to do exactly what they've been doing for so long and not one thing different. They are a lethal group of 11 men this season that on their best days have made big teams taste defeats.
