The BCCI gave Indian fans a bag full of surprises while announcing their squad for the T20 World Cup 2024. The biggest of all was the exclusion of Rinku Singh, who was thought to be in India's main squad rather than in the traveling reserves.
Nevertheless, as we already know the 15-member squad, let's have a look at who should make a strong playing XI for the Men in Blue before looking back any further.
India have a habit of bringing in a back-up opener whenever they go to ICC events. So, even though there is a lot of noise regarding Yashasvi Jaiswal's opening with Rohit Sharma, it is very likely to be the same in reality.
Virat Kohli should be opening with Rohit Sharma, a dream for many ardent Indian fans to see at ICC events. It will allow Suryakumar Yadav, the No. 1 T20I batter in the world, to bat at his preferred No. 3 position.
Rishabh Pant, who has made a sensational comeback in the national setup after IPL 2024 heroics, will be flexible in the middle, preferably coming at No. 4. That means there is no room for Sanju Samson, who likes to come among the top-order batters. At the same time, it opens the door for hard-hitting Shivam Dube.
There is little doubt that Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja will occupy the Nos. 6 and 7, while the bowling attack will include Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and the comeback man Yuzvendra Chahal, who is yet to play a T20I match for India at ICC tournaments.
So, Arshdeep Singh, Jaiswal, Samson, and Axar Patel, who are in the main squad, are expected to be benched before anyone's poor form brings the other into the mix.
