Tamim Iqbal in Bangladesh (Source: @DhakaStream/X.com)
Tamim Iqbal is one of the greatest Bangladesh cricketers who carried the hopes of his country for more than a decade. He was also a pretty successful leader and is one of the players who would be long recognised as the one to take Bangladesh cricket forward.
He has now retired from international cricket but has shown interest in helping Bangladesh cricket grow further in different capacities. In that process, the cricketer decided to contest elections for the director post in the Bangladesh cricket board, but has now decided to withdraw his nomination. He has cited government interference in the election process while talking to reporters at the BCB corridor in the Sher-e-Bangla Cricket Stadium.
Tamim Iqbal opens up about problems in BCB elections
The cricketer also added that along with him, other 14-15 members have also withdrawn their nominations. He added that the process is unfair and no matter what the result comes, it is not good for cricket in Bangladesh.
"You know that today we have withdrawn our nominations. Including me, about 14-15 of us have withdrawn. And the reason for this withdrawal is very clear. I don't think I need to give you any details or explanations".
The former Bangladesh captain added that the people who care about the fair process will not be part of the elections. He also added that the process doesn't suit cricket, and the people who are controlling it are doing things as they like.
"From the very beginning, I have been saying one thing, and you are all clear about it now... which direction this election is going or how it is being conducted. Whatever seems right at any moment, whatever they want to do, is being done. This... this is not really an election. This is not an election, and this doesn't suit cricket in any way," Tamim told reporters at the BCB corridor at Mirpur Sher-e Bangla National Cricket Stadium.
Tamim Iqbal takes 'fixing' dig at powerful people in Bangladesh
Tamim Iqbal also took a sarcastic dig at people talking about fixing in Bangladesh cricket by saying that one should first stop doing the same in the election process of the board.
"You may win, you may lose, but today, cricket has lost one hundred percent. There is no doubt about it. You say loudly that fixing in Bangladesh needs to be stopped; first, stop the fixing in the election, then think about stopping fixing in cricket".
Thus, a reputed Bangladesh cricketer has levelled some serious charges against the BCB election process. It shows the problems in Bangladesh cricket and how government influence is affecting the game in the country.
