In a significant development, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has updated the T20I player rankings. While India's swashbuckling batter Abhishek Sharma has got the best rating of his career, Shaheen Afridi and Sahibzada Farhan have made rapid strides in their respective categories.

Asia Cup heroes from India, Pakistan witness ranking boost

Abhishek Sharma has retained the top spot in the ICC T20I rankings, reaching a career high rating of 931 points. This is the highest-ever rating received by any batter in the history of T20I cricket. He broke the record set by Virat Kohli (909), Suryakumar Yadav (912) and Dawid Malan (919), getting his rating increased from 907 to 931 after his blistering knocks in the Asia Cup.

Despite failing in the all-important final, Abhishek played a pivotal role in powering India to the Asia Cup title, amassing the most runs in the tournament. His sensational power-hitting got India off to a flier in almost every game, ensuring their stellar success with the bat amid the poor form of Shubman Gill and Suryakumar Yadav.

Meanwhile, Sahibzada Farhan, Shaheen Afridi and Kuldeep Yadav have made rapid progress in the ICC rankings following their heroics in the Asia Cup 2025. Farhan was Pakistan's most consistent performer with the bat, scoring 217 runs at an average of 31 and a strike rate of 116.04.

His stunning fifty in the final helped Pakistan post a respectable score although they failed to defend it, losing the ultimate encounter by five wickets. He moves eleven places up to number 13 in the batters' rankings.

On the other hand, Shaheen Afridi emerged as Pakistan's most successful bowler, scalping ten wickets in the tournament. The left-arm pacer has rose twelve places, finishing the week as the joint-thirteenth ranked bowler alongside Axar Patel. Kuldeep Yadav, the highest wicket-taker in the Asia Cup, has jumped nine spots up to number 12, with Varun Chakravarthy retaining the top position in the bowlers' rankings.
