Lanning’s Heartfelt Praises For Mandhana

Over the last few years, India’s meteoric rise has captured the limelight, but Smriti Mandhana has remained the driving force behind it. She delivered some masterclasses when it mattered the most. In the ongoing ODI series against Australia Women, her promising form is heating the series up.

After a brilliant half-century in the first game, she dazzled on the big stage with a record-breaking 117-run innings, and that pushed India to register a massive victory. Speaking to ICC Review, Australian star Meg Lanning couldn’t hide her admiration, praising Mandhana’s brilliance.

“She's got a lot of good cricket ahead of her, Smriti [Mandhana]. She's already a world-class player, has been for a long time, and especially in this format of the game, she's capable of really making those match-winning scores and those big hundreds, and they're the players you worry about as an opposition team,” she said.

“She's shown that time and time again that she's very dangerous and able to perform under pressure in big moments. So she's setting herself up nicely for a really big World Cup,” she added.

On Mandhana’s Brilliance Against The Aussies

In the cricket world, Australia has been a mighty side, irrespective of the men's and Women’s sides. While the Aussie women began the series strongly, Smriti Mandhana has remained a formidable challenge. With the next match around the corner, Meg Lanning is gearing up confidently to take on the Indian star.

“She took up a lot of time in our planning meetings, that's for sure. She's developed her game a lot as well. I think we've seen the Australians use Ash Gardner a lot up front to her in the past. I think off spin's been a good match-up [against her]. So I think a lot of teams around the world will try and employ that,” she added.

After India Women registered a massive win in the last game, the ongoing series against Australia Women the series now tied 1-1. With the decider set for September 20, both teams will battle fiercely to gain the upper hand ahead of the upcoming Women’s World Cup.
