Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant is thankful for surviving a life-threatening car accident last year and shared his excitement about participating in the IPL 2024 auction, scheduled to take place in Dubai on Tuesday, December 19.

Nearly a year ago, the dynamic wicketkeeper-batter was involved in a serious car accident while driving home to Roorkee. Pant's car overturned on the highway, and local residents pulled him out of the wreckage. The cricketer underwent multiple surgeries and has been on the road to recovery since then.

Reflecting on the accident, Pant acknowledged his fortunate survival and discussed the challenging initial phase of recovery, marked by considerable pain. In a video posted by the IPL, Pant stated,

"The kind of accident I had I am lucky to be alive. The first part of recovery was so challenging with lots of pain but now recovery is going well. More from a physical point of view because in the starting there was a lot of pain to be endured. But just looking forward to the journey till now. I think it’s been going really well from a recovery point of view."

Pant to attend IPL 2024 Auction

Ahead of the highly anticipated IPL auction, scheduled to take place in Dubai, Pant arrived in Dubai to support his IPL franchise, the Delhi Capitals. It is anticipated that Pant will be present at the auction table alongside Delhi Capitals' Team Director Sourav Ganguly and head coach Ricky Ponting.

Expressing his excitement and nervousness about this new experience, Pant remarked,

"You know as a kid, I used to think like one day I might be able to sit on the table somehow to help a team or something like that. I never thought that I will make it happen, but somehow things are in place and I am able to do it. And lucky to be able to do it."

Many media reports suggests that Pant might be utilized as an Impact Player in IPL 2024, as he may not be fully prepared to resume his wicketkeeping duties.

In the absence of Pant during IPL 2023, under the leadership of David Warner, the Delhi Capitals struggled, finishing ninth in the standings with just five wins in 14 games. The team faced challenges in finding a winning combination throughout the tournament, resulting in nine losses.

With a purse of INR 28.95 crore (USD 3.47 million approx.) for the auction, the Capitals will be eager to make strategic purchases to fill up the 9 squad slots available.

Delhi Capitals current squad (Before IPL 2024 auction): Rishabh Pant, David Warner, Prithvi Shaw, Yash Dhull, Abishek Porel, Axar Patel, Lalit Yadav, Mitchell Marsh, Pravin Dubey, Vicky Ostwal, Anrich Nortje, Kuldeep Yadav, Lungi Ngidi, Khaleel Ahmed, Ishant Sharma, and Mukesh Kumar.
