India T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav is set to play domestic cricket, with plans to feature in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024, according to reports. The dynamic batter, known for his explosive batting style, will represent Mumbai in the tournament and is expected to be available for the crucial stages, including the knockouts.

However, Suryakumar will likely miss the opening matches of the tournament due to personal reasons. He is set to rejoin the Mumbai squad in early December, just in time for the final league games and the knockout rounds.

The Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy kicks off on November 23, with Mumbai set to play their opening match against Goa at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.

“Yes, SKY will not be available for the first few games of SMAT. He will return to action for the last few league games (in early December) and the knockouts,” a source from the Mumbai Cricket Association revealed to The Times of India.

The star batter recently led India to a commanding 3-1 series victory, concluding the action on Friday night at the Wanderers Stadium. While Suryakumar Yadav couldn't deliver his usual fireworks with the bat, managing just 26 runs in three innings, his leadership skills stole the spotlight.

His captaincy was widely lauded, particularly for selflessly stepping down from his preferred No. 3 position to make way for young star batter Tilak Varma, who shone with back-to-back centuries against the Proteas. Additionally, Suryakumar's encouragement played a key role in boosting Kerala batter Sanju Samson, who also smashed two centuries in the four-match T20I series.
