The first Test between India and Australia is just few days away now, and India are facing major crisis with both Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill likely to miss the game. Rohit is in India with his family after the birth of his second child while Shubman Gill has injured his left thumb. It means that India would have to look at other options for the Perth Test and it seems that KL Rahul is a front-runner to take one of those spots.

According to RevSportz, KL Rahul batted for more than an hour on centre wicket and faced every bowler including the frontline seamers Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj. The duration shows that he is one of the preferred option and could bat at 3 or open the innings in the first Test.

KL Rahul did not stop there, after batting at the centre wicket, he went to the nets and batted against both new and old-ball with side-arm throwers helping him in the process. It shows that KL Rahul is determined to make the opportunity count if it arises and it could be a make or break series for the batter, who has been under a lot of criticism in recent past.

The stylish batter though has the experience of playing in Australia before and has a century too, making him a strong contender to play in the first Test. There are other options like Abhimanyu Easwaran, Dhruv Jurel and Sarfaraz Khan too and it would be interesting to see who gets a nod for the all-important Perth Test.

As far as Shubman Gill's is concerned, the severity of his injury is still unknown, but with just few days to go before the Test, his participation looks highly unlikely. Rohit Sharma is likely to join the squad before the second match and Jasprit Bumrah is all set to lead India in the Perth Test.
