Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) slipped to a 42-run defeat against SRH in match 65 of the IPL 2025 season on Friday, May 23 in Lucknow. In pursuit of 232 runs for a win, RCB kept the chase alive by reaching 173-3 before a late collapse ensured that they lost their final seven wickets for just 16 additional runs.
Nonetheless, the outcome marked RCB’s first defeat after winning four successive games, and it hampered their ambitions of securing a top two finish to a certain extent.
Jitesh Sharma analyses big RCB defeat to SRH
Jitesh Sharma, who replaced injured Rajat Patidar as RCB captain, downplayed his team’s defeat against SRH in the high-scoring game at Lucknow’s Ekana Stadium. The blistering middle-order batter stated that sometimes losing can be a “very good sign” for a team to relax and analyze their game plans.
Jitesh added that RCB’s latest defeat to SRH will give them an opportunity to re-assess certain strategies before moving to the IPL 2025 playoffs. While speaking after the match, he said:
“Sometimes losing a game is a very good sign because you can check and analyse. The positive things are that everyone's chipping in. After this loss, we've got a setback to check [things] again. We'll move forward.”
It is worth noting that a win over SRH at this stage of the tournament would have taken RCB to the top of the IPL 2025 points table. However, they continue to remain at number three for securing eight wins at an expense of four defeats and a no-result from 13 matches.
For RCB to secure a top two finish, they need to defeat LSG in their upcoming final league match and hope for Punjab Kings and Gujarat Titans to lose at least one of their remaining games.
The RCB franchise will now face LSG on Tuesday, May 27 at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow.
