As the IPL 2026 retention deadline approaches on Saturday, the Jadeja-Sanju trade is all but confirmed, with the franchises yet to confirm the deal.

Touching upon Ravindra Jadeja’s Indian Premier League (IPL) trade ahead of the 2026 mini auction, Indian commentator Ravi Shastri hints that the deal has been done. In the ongoing 1st Test between India and South Africa at the iconic Eden Gardens, Shastri’s comment makes headlines.

Shastri gives clarity on Jadeja-Sanju trade 2026, a day before the window closes

During the first day of the Kolkata Test, commentator Harsha Bhogle raised a question everyone wants to know: “With so much happening off the field, has Jadeja been able to stay focused on his cricket?”

In his very own manner, Shastri puts the question out by highlighting Jadeja’s passion for the game and dedication to shut the outside noise and focus on the game like a war-horse.

"The talk is more for people on the outside. They are more interested in where he's going and how much he is making. I think he knew where he was going from the beginning. He was very clear, and his focus was cricket.”

“Let the noise happen on the outside. Noise always happens in India. You know what you want, you know what's coming in your back pocket. I'll give you that, I mean, now. He is far too experienced. He's a gun cricketer, this fellow. I know, just the way he played in England. Over 500 runs in the series," Shastri said on commentary.

“Thalapathy” set to end an iconic era with CSK

The 36-year-old Indian all-rounder has been an integral part of the 5-time IPL-winning Chennai Super Kings. Thus, if the talks are true and the trade is confirmed, it will mark the end of an era for CSK’s “Thalapathy”, who has been with CSK since 2012, barring 2 year ban.

Nonetheless, the high-profile trade will also ensure a full-circle moment for Jadeja, who had started his IPL journey with the Rajasthan Royals in 2008.

Coming to the IPL 2026 Trade deals so far, Shardul Thakur and Sherfane Rutherford have been separately traded to the Mumbai Indians, both in all-cash deals. Notably, Lucknow Supergiants has let go of Shardul for the price of INR 2 Crore. On the other hand, Gujarat Titans have sent Rutherford for 2.6 Cr (INR).
