Pakistan rejects Bangladesh [Source: @TheSportsSide1/X.com]
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has rejected Bangladesh's invitation to play a T20I tri-series in December. Earlier, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) invited the Pakistan cricket team to Bangladesh to host a tri-series with Sri Lanka in a bid to prepare for next year's 2026 ICC Men's T20 World Cup.
However, the PCB has refused to send the Pakistan team to Bangladesh, citing the workload management of the players.
PCB chooses BBL over Bangladesh tri-series for PAK players
The Pakistan cricket team is currently hosting Sri Lanka for a three-match ODI series. The series will be directly followed by a T20I tri-series at home, with Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe serving as the other two teams. Roughly a month ago, the Pakistan team also played the 2025 Men's T20 Asia Cup in the UAE before hosting South Africa for an all-format series at home up until a few days ago.
Citing Pakistan players' workload management, the PCB has reportedly rejected BCB's request to send the Pakistan team to Bangladesh next month in December for another T20I tri-series involving Sri Lanka, as reported by Geo News. It is worth noting that the Pakistan team also toured Bangladesh earlier this year back in July, to play a three-match T20I series against the hosts.
A PCB official also stated that the board has already granted NOCs to several senior Pakistan players like Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi, Mohammad Rizwan, Haris Rauf and Shadab Khan to participate in the BBL 2025-26 season in Australia. The BBL schedule largely coincides with that of Bangladesh's planned pre-T20 World Cup tri-series at home.
Nonetheless, the Pakistan cricket team is still committed to playing a number of T20I fixtures in a bid to prepare for next year's ICC showpiece event. The 2026 ICC Men's T20 World Cup is scheduled to be hosted by India and Sri Lanka between February and March.
