After an exceptional outing in the ongoing Champions Trophy, Team India is all set to face New Zealand in the final match. In the entire tournament, Team India opted for KL Rahul for the wicketkeeper-batter’s role in the tournament.

KL Rahul’s shift to No. 6 created quite a buzz, marking a key transition in his batting role. But before the final clash, Team India’s batting coach Sitanshu Kotak hails KL Rahul’s role as a number 6 batter.

Batting Coach Praises KL Rahul’s Role

Over the years, KL Rahul's batting has been an issue. As he faced multiple changes in his batting order, it impacted his performance, too. However, in the ongoing Champions Trophy, he has embraced his role as India’s first-choice wicketkeeper and a key middle-order batter. Before stepping into the final match, Team India’s batting coach Sitanshu Kotak marks this transition as a key one and hailed KL Rahul’s adaptability as a crucial asset to the team’s success.

“He is someone who can open, someone who can go at 4 or 5, and someone who is doing what number 6 is demanding. He adapts well, and he is very happy in the role he is performing…When he starts performing at that number, that obviously helps him also, because it is a different situation he is going in. So, that is great for the team as well,” he said.

“But whatever I have spoken to him, he is happy to do whatever the team requires, and he has been doing that,” he added.

Rahul Can Be A Game Changer In The Final

For a long time, Team India tried KL Rahul in multiple positions. The wicketkeeper-batter made the most of every opportunity, but it’s the No. 5 spot that truly defines his role. He has amassed over 1000 runs with an average of more than 50. However, in the previous ODI series against Sri Lanka, KL Rahul experienced a shift in his batting role, moving down to No. 6.

Rahul’s move to No. 6 initially raised eyebrows, but he has thrived in the role during the ongoing Champions Trophy. In 4 matches, he scored 106 runs, and his unbeaten 42-run innings in the semifinal played a crucial role in securing the victory.

As Team India is all set to face New Zealand, KL Rahul’s presence will be clear. If top order struggles, his stability in the middle order will provide the much-needed support, driving the team towards glory.
