Former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan has praised Australia and New Zealand all-rounders, Cameron Green and Daryl Mitchell respectively ahead of the upcoming IPL 2026 auction. Pathan believes that both Green and Mitchell can set the cash registers ringing at the bidding event, and franchises like KKR and five-timers CSK will likely go all out in a bid to acquire the charismatic Australian cricketer.

Both Green and Mitchell are currently in the IPL 2026 auction fray after not featuring in the IPL 2025 season earlier this year.

Irfan Pathan expects CSK to show “interest” in Cameron Green

Former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan expects KKR to target Cameron Green at the IPL 2026 auction, considering the Australian cricketer is a “like-for-like” replacement for KKR’s outbound player Andre Russell. Pathan also added that a franchise like CSK might also show interest in acquiring the explosive Australian all-rounder.

While speaking on the ‘TATA IPL Auction Most Wanted’ show, the former Indian cricketer said:

“Cameron Green is a top-quality all-rounder, and with KKR entering the auction with a sizeable purse, they'll surely target him. With Andre Russell retired, Green offers a like-for-like replacement — someone who can contribute with both bat and ball, though he'll probably bat a bit higher in the order. I expect CSK to show interest too.”

Irfan Pathan also added that New Zealand all-rounder Daryl Mitchell can also make it big at the IPL 2026 auction owing to his formidable track record on Indian surfaces. He added:

“Daryl Mitchell is a quality overseas batter who plays spin exceptionally well — that's exactly why Chennai Super Kings invested heavily in him earlier, paying around 14 crores. His ability to handle spin on tricky surfaces like Chennai's makes him a strong asset. With solid experience in both international and league cricket, he brings the temperament and skill teams look for in a proven overseas performer.”

Cameron Green last played IPL back in 2024 for the RCB before he was released by the franchise. Daryl Mitchell previously played for Rajasthan Royals and CSK franchises respectively between the years 2022 and 2024.

As of now, it remains to be seen if both Green and Mitchell can live up to the hype at the IPL 2026 auction, scheduled to take place on Tuesday, December 16.
