Pakistan's veteran batter Babar Azam had a forgettable start to his Big Bash League career, as he was dismissed by uncapped Australian pacer Brody Couch in Sydney Sixers' ongoing encounter against Perth Scorchers. Babar Azam came out to open the batting for the Sixers; however, Couch dismissed him for just two runs, turning his BBL debut into a nightmare.

Babar Azam's much anticipated BBL debut turns into a blooper

The rain-affected BBL clash between Sydney Sixers and Perth Scorchers had a delayed start, with rain prompting the match officials to reduce it into an eleven-over-per-side fixture. After Perth Scorchers won the toss and opted to bowl first, Babar Azam stepped into the middle as an opener alongside Daniel Hughes.

However, the visitors had a horrible start to their innings, as Aaron Hardie got rid of Hughes for a three-ball duck. While the Sixers had huge expectations from Babar, the Pakistan star failed to steady the ship and gifted his wicket with a mis-timed shot.

The incident occurred in the third over of the Sixers' innings when the Scorchers brought Brody Couch as their first change. The move instantly worked for the home team, with the right-arm pacer dismissing him with a well-directed short ball

From over the wicket, Brody Couch surprised Babar with a body-line delivery, as the Pakistan batter went for an expansive hoick. However, the pace and bounce of the ball got the better of him, with the mis-timed shot going straight to Laurie Evans. The veteran cricketer didn't commit any mistake and took a simple catch to send Babar Azam packing.

Babar Azam's dismissal triggers Sixers' top-order collapse

An anchor of Babar Azam's calibre would certainly have helped the Sixers get off to a steady start in the BBL 15 opener. However, his dismissal opened the floodgates for the visitors, who went on to lose the prized wickets of Josh Philippe and Moises Henriques in quick succession.

As of writing, Sydney Sixers were 58 for four in 6.4 overs, with Lachlan Shaw and Jack Edwards batting on 7* and 10*, respectively.
