Former Pakistan bowler Saeed Ajmal has strongly criticised former cricketers who have been vocal in their criticism for Babar Azam. It is important to note that Pakistan's star batter has been excluded from Pakistan's T20I squad after a series of disappointing performances. However, Ajmal, came out in support of the Babar Azam, and questioned the motives of former players who have publicly degraded him.
Saeed Ajmal Slams Former Players
In a candid conversation with Sportstar, Ajmal made strong comments and came in support of Babar. His statement highlighted his concern that public criticism of Babar Azam has clearly affected his form and not just this it also could damage Pakistan's cricketing future.
Ajmal, who himself faced challenges during his career, emphasised that every player experiences ups and downs. This comments came in light of Babar Azam's recent poor form in the Champions Trophy, where his performance drew harsh feedback from several former cricketers.
"Aapke paas ek hi toh star hai. If you degrade him also, then how will your cricket run? These are the big issues. Our former cricketers should keep their mouths shut. As a cricketer, one must realise that bad patches are part of a player's career. You can't play cricket the same way all your life. Even if you were Sachin Tendulkar, you couldn't score 100 runs in every match." told Sportstar.
Following Pakistan's underwhelming performance in the recently concluded Champions Trophy, the PCB made swift changes, including the removal of Mohammad Rizwan as the T20I captain and the exclusion of both Rizwan and Babar Azam from the T20I squad for the ongoing series against New Zealand.
However, it is important to mention that Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan have been included in Pakistan’s ODI squad for the New Zealand tour.
