After smashing his second Test century on Day 1 of the second Test between India and England in Visakhapatnam on Friday, February 2, young Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal shared insights into his stellar performance.

Jaiswal highlighted his approach of giving due respect to the bowlers when they maintained precision in line and length, while seizing the opportunity to attack loose deliveries.

Vizag Day 1 belonged to Jaiswal

Jaiswal's outstanding innings, marked by his unbeaten 179 at the end of Day 1, showcased a meticulous strategy. In the initial morning session, he displayed caution, taking 89 deliveries to complete his fifty. However, he seamlessly transitioned into an aggressive mode during the second session, significantly elevating the scoring rate.

The centurion reached his ton in a spectacular fashion, dispatching left-arm spinner Tom Hartley for a massive six, off just 151 balls. Jaiswal's unbeaten innings at stumps comprised a career-best 257-ball 179, laced with 17 fours and five sixes. The display of aggression and precision throughout his innings proved once again that Jaiswal is the next superstar of the Indian cricket.

Jaiswal credits Rohit Sharma, Rahul Dravid for his performance

In a post-innings chat,  Jaiswal provided insights into his strategic approach during his remarkable innings.

Talking about his meticulous mindset, Jaiswal said,

"Yeah, I had it in my mind that I had to play session by session. I thought of giving respect to the bowlers whenever they were bowling well."

Jaiswal adapted to the challenging conditions, acknowledging the initial dampness of the wicket and the occasional spin and seam movement. His focus was on capitalizing on loose deliveries and holding his ground until the end. Pleased with his century, Jaiswal is looking to convert his second Test century into a maiden double hundred and possibly more, stating,

"I think I would love to double it up and keep going. I will try my best tomorrow, recover for tomorrow, and play another long innings."

The southpaw also shared the piece of advice provided by skipper Rohit Sharma and head coach Rahul Dravid.

"I was thinking of how to manage the shot selection just like Rohit bhai and Rahul bhai, as conveyed. I tried to play as many balls as possible."

Jaiswal showed his class and despite wicket falling from the other end, the left-handed batter held one end to take his team close to 350 at the end of day 1.
