Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc lauded Ajinkya Rahane for his outstanding performance in the ongoing World Test Championship 2023 match at The Oval in London. Rahane's resilient knock of 89 runs off 129 balls proved crucial as he faced a challenging spell from the Australian bowlers, enabling India to reach a respectable total of 296 runs.

Starc acknowledged Rahane's ability to excel in such innings, having witnessed his exceptional batting skills in previous series. Despite entering the crease during a difficult period, Rahane, along with Shardul Thakur, demonstrated composure and absorbed the mounting pressure, constructing a vital partnership.

"He played really well. We know Jinks can play innings like that; we've seen it through series before. He came in at a tough time to bat and managed to, along with Thakur as well, to absorb some pressure there and build an innings and played really nicely," said Mitchell Starc in the press conference.

The partnership between Rahane and Shardul Thakur posed a challenge for the Australian bowling attack, extending their time on the field. Recognizing Rahane's past achievements, the Australian premier pacer expressed his team's hopes of dismissing him early in the second innings to gain an advantage.

"Jinx probably was a little bit more you know - waited for the bad ball and built his innings and then built a nice partnership. So, we know what a good player he is and he’s done in the past and hopefully we can get him out early in the second innings."

Starc's praise for Rahane's batting prowess and the recognition of his partnership with Thakur highlight the significance of Rahane's innings in shaping India's total and providing a platform for success.
