Pakistan batting giant Babar Azam lauded South African legend AB de Villiers and named him as his "dream batting partner". Babar laid bare his admiration for the Proteas great, insisting he would've loved to have batted with one of the finest ever players to have graced international cricket.

It was during an interaction with his fans and followers on X (formerly known as Twitter) that Babar disclosed his desire to bat with De Villiers, one which now appears unlikely to be fulfilled since the explosive right-hander has retired from international and domestic duties entirely.

De Villiers, who announced a shocking premature retirement from international cricket in early 2018, never returned to the top-level game and also bid farewell to domestic franchise T20 leagues after the conclusion of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 with Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

Babar Reveals De Villiers As 'Dream Batting Partner'

"AB de Villiers is always my dream batting partner. I have played against him but not with him," Babar said in response to a fan query during his Q & A session.

The Pakistan batting linchpin was in for a major surprise soon as De Villiers took time out to respond to him on the popular social media platform.

"Would have loved to bat with you too my man," De Villiers said.

Babar also revealed the life lessons he has taken to the game, having seen both swings of the world before becoming a cricketing icon with immense fame and recognition.

"I have worked as a labourer as well. I used to work in the morning and later do net practice. These are stages of life which give you lessons," he said.

Babar is currently in Bangladesh playing the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) after undergoing a difficult set of two months with the Test series in Australia and then the T20Is in New Zealand.
