In Pakistan cricket, the rapport between two experienced players, Babar Azam and Imad Wasim, has been a focal point of intrigue and speculation. The narrative surrounding their relationship is fraught with tales of tension and discord, particularly against the backdrop of their tenure with Karachi Kings in the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

Imad Wasim chooses Babar Azam over Virat Kohli

Reports and rumours of friction have fuelled discussions among the cricketing fraternity, painting a picture of a partnership marred by professional disagreements. The undercurrents of their strained association came to the fore during their stint at Karachi Kings, where incidents of disagreements were said to have sown seeds of discord.

This period started the beginning of a seemingly complex relationship between the two. Notably, the all-rounder had also advised Babar to step down after ICC World Cup 2023 failure.

In a revealing moment that shed light on their dynamic, Imad Wasim was recently posed with a choice between Babar Azam and Indian cricketing stalwart Virat Kohli. Wasim's response was rather surprising. He snubbed Kohli and expressed a preference for Babar Azam, lauding him as their national pride.

“I would go with Babar. He's our nation's pride. We can criticize him, express opinions about him in the right way so that he becomes an amazing player. However, he has served Pakistan with dignity and pride for a long time,” said Wasim.

Meanwhile, Wasim announced his retirement from international cricket in November of the previous year, concluding a career that saw him don the green jersey in 55 One Day Internationals (ODIs) and 66 Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is).

His role as a left-arm spinner and a lower-order batsman has been significant in Pakistan's cricketing campaigns. On the other hand, Babar Azam, in the aftermath of the ICC World Cup 2023 debacle, relinquished his captaincy but continues to grace the field as a formidable batter.
