Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) acquired Australian all-rounder Cameron Green in a trade from Mumbai Indians, marking a significant move on the IPL 2024 retention deadline day. Green, who joined Mumbai Indians in the previous season after a hefty bid of INR 17.50 crore, is now set to bolster RCB's lineup.

RCB's Director of Cricket, Mo Bobat lauds Cameron Green

RCB's Director of Cricket, Mo Bobat, expressed his enthusiasm about Green's inclusion in the team. While speaking to RCB Bold Diaries, Bobat highlighted Green's skills as a middle-order power hitter and his suitability for the team's strategy.

He pointed out Green's effective batting against both pace and spin, along with his international experience in various formats, as key factors in RCB's decision to acquire him. Bobat further said that Green will thrive at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, RCB's home ground.

“He is the ideal fit for us in that middle-order power role. He is a high-quality, skillful and powerful batsman. He has got the game against both pace and spin. He has got international experience across formats and I am sure he will enjoy batting at the Chinnaswamy,” said Bobat.

Green's performance in the IPL 2023 was noteworthy. He played 16 matches, amassing 452 runs at an impressive average of 50.22 and a strike rate of 160.28. His stint included a century and two half-centuries, showcasing his batting capabilities. Additionally, Green contributed with the ball, taking 6 wickets, and was effective in the field, taking 5 catches.

Bobat also praised Green's bowling skills, noting his pace and bounce as valuable assets for the team, especially in home conditions. He further commended Green's exceptional fielding skills, particularly highlighting his catches while fielding at gully.

“He is also a fantastic bowler and he bowls with pace and bounce, which were certainly attributes we were looking for, particularly in our home conditions. Let us not forget what an exceptional fielder he is. Some of the catches he has taken in recent times fielding at gully is seriously impressive,” added the 40-year-old.

The trade follows a significant bidding war for Green between MI and RCB in the previous year's auction. Reports indicate that MI approached several teams for Green's trade before finalizing the deal with RCB.
