Pakistan wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan believes the team that handles pressure better on the day will prevail in the upcoming high-voltage India vs Pakistan Asia 2023 match. The two Asian titans are set to collide at the continental event on September 2.

The contest also marks the opening fixture for the Indian team, and conclusion to Pakistan’s Group A campaign of the tournament.

Mohammad Rizwan opens up on India vs Pakistan rivalry

Pakistan veteran Mohammad Rizwan gave his take on his country’s competitive cricketing rivalry with India. The wicketkeeper-batter also opened up on their upcoming Asia Cup 2023 clash, describing it as a pressure match set to be viewed by the world.

While speaking with Star Sports, official broadcasters of the Asia Cup 2023, Mohammad Rizwan said:

“India are also a good team, we are also a good team. India have their strengths and weaknesses, and we have too. It is a pressure match with the world watching it. According to me, a difference between the star player and a regular international player is experience. Whoever handles pressure will win the match.”

Rizwan’s comments added more hype to the already-anticipated game, considering the imminent battle represents the first instance of India and Pakistan facing each other in an ODI since the conclusion of the 2019 World Cup.

Form wise, Pakistan recently thumped Afghanistan 3-0 on Sri Lankan pitches, while a bunch of first-choice Team India players have not featured in an ODI since March this year. Senior Indian pros Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli skipped a major portion of team’s ODI series in West Indies, where the latter of the two did not even come out to bat even once.

Moreover, the ‘Men in Blue’ Asia Cup 2023 squad features KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer, who are making a comeback to the team from their injuries. Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah returned to action just a couple of weeks prior to the launch of the tournament, when he visited Irish shores for a brief T20I assignment.

Team India’s opening Asia Cup 2023 clash will be played out at the iconic Pallekele Stadium in Kandy on September 2.
