Former India head coach, Ravi Shastri reckons that Rishabh Pant's keeping during the T20 World Cup 2024 was his surprising aspect, and it turned out to be the X-factor for the Indian team.

Pant makes grand return to international stage

Pant, who made his return to the international stage after a lengthy layoff, was included in the squad for the T20 World Cup, and it was met with negative reactions. However, the southpaw quickly turned it around and showcased exemplary glove-work to surprise the former cricketer.

Pant's keeping peaked during the group stage match against Pakistan. In one instance, Hardik bowled a bouncer and Pant quickly ran towards his left and completed a remarkable catch.

Moreover, in th final over, Arshdeep bowled a perfect yorker to Imad, who nicked it to Pant and the keeper dived in perfectly to complete the catch, and eventually seal India's win.

Ravi Shastri's huge praise for Rishabh Pant

"He did his job with the bat, but it was his keeping that really surprised everyone. For someone to recover that quickly and then move the way he did. He hardly missed anything, albeit he must have felt the pressure as the tournament got on because it's not easy to come back and do all the stuff he did," Shastri said during a conversation with ICC Insider Sanjana Ganesan.

Talking about the finals, India defeated South Africa to clinch the T20 World Cup for the second time. Pant finished the tournament with 171 runs in 8 matches.
