Former India captain, MS Dhoni has called the 2019 World Cup semi-finale loss Vs New Zealand 'heart-breaking.'

Speaking at an event, MS Dhoni stated that it was a tough pill to swallow, and it took a while to come out of that loss in the semis.

India were the outstanding team in the 2019 World Cup, and came up as the favourites against the Kane Williamson led New Zealand team. India needed 240 to reach the finals, but a top-order collapse meant the middle and lower-order had a lot of catching up to do.

Despite losing Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and KL Rahul early, it was the resistance of Ravindra Jadeja and MS Dhoni which kept India alive in the chase. While Jadeja scored a swashbuckling 77 off 59 deliveries, MS Dhoni played a cautious knock of 50, but just when India gathered the momentum, his run-out changed the course of the match.

MS Dhoni on 2019 semi-finale loss: It was heartbreaking

"It was a difficult one because I knew that this will be my last World Cup, so it would have been good to be on the winning side. It was heartbreak moment, so we accepted the result and we tried to move on," Dhoni said at an event

He further added that it takes time to swallow such a big loss, and he got enough time to do that, since it turned out to be his final game for India.

"Time thoda lagta hai aur World Cup ke baad thoda time mil bhi jata hai. Maine toh uske baad international khela nahi hai toh mujhe toh kaafi time mila-hai. (It takes time and one gets some time after the World Cup. I haven't played ar international after that, so I got a lot of time). So, yes, it was a heartbreak."

On August 15, 2020, MS Dhoni surprised everyone when he announced his retirement from international cricket, calling curtains on a 15-year long career.
