India’s third T20I against hosts Ireland was washed out owing to ceaseless rains at Dublin’s Malahide Cricket Club Ground. The visitors eventually took home the series 2-0, with winning captain Jasprit Bumrah walking away with a ‘Player of the Series’ award.

During the presentation ceremony, the senior Indian speedster talked about his brief captaincy gig and a comeback into the team after nearly a year.

Bumrah praises ‘enthusiastic’ bunch after series win

Jasprit Bumrah, after attaining full recovery from his back injury, was tasked to lead the Indian team for a three-match T20I series in Ireland. The cricketer made a roaring comeback, as he claimed two wickets in his opening over of the first match, and snared another two in his subsequent outing two days later.

Aiming for a 3-0 win over hosts, Jasprit Bumrah admitted that it was frustrating for the team to keep waiting for weather conditions to improve in the third T20I. However, he also praised his bunch for being enthusiastic throughout their wait even when the rains were around.

Bumrah further claimed that it was an honour to captain the team, even for a short term, as he looks to get back to his original role from next week’s Asia Cup 2023 in Sri Lanka. The ace speedster said:

“It was frustrating waiting for a game to happen. This was something we did not see coming because the weather was fine earlier. It has been a lot of fun and an honour captaining them. They were enthusiastic and eager even when rain was around. I don't think about that injury, when you get a chance to captain your side, you always take it. As a cricketer you always enjoy responsibility.”

Jasprit Bumrah will now be seen in action for Team India during the Asia Cup 2023. Under Rohit Sharma’s leadership, the ‘Men in Blue’ will launch their campaign with a game against arch-rivals Pakistan on September 2. The match is scheduled to be played at Kandy’s Pallekele Cricket Stadium.
